PA Claims Handler
Key roles The role of the Personal Accident & Travel Claims Handler is to manage and assess allocated claims in a professional, accurate and customer-focused manner. This includes ensuring technical excellence, applying policy wordings correctly, meeting service level agreements, and maintaining clear communication with claimants and internal stakeholders.
The role will support a new scheme and is not limited to Personal Accident claims only, requiring flexibility to handle both PA and Travel claims.
Specific responsibilities (including but not limited to) The role involves managing the end-to-end handling of Personal Accident and Travel claims, taking each case from initial notification through to final settlement. This includes assessing claims carefully and consistently in line with policy wordings, relevant regulatory guidelines (including Consumer Protection Code requirements), and agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- A key part of the role is maintaining accurate, complete, and up-to-date claim records, ensuring all documentation is properly recorded throughout the lifecycle of each claim. You will regularly review and evaluate supporting evidence such as medical reports, travel documentation, receipts, and any related expenses to support fair and timely claims decisions.
- You will be responsible for processing claim payments accurately and within agreed timelines, ensuring a high level of attention to detail at all stages. Managing your own workload is essential, including monitoring Work Action Logs, prioritising tasks effectively, and ensuring that claims progress efficiently.
- The role also requires identifying and appropriately escalating any fraud indicators, recovery opportunities, or complaints. Complaints must be escalated to the Team Leader without delay. Claims that fall outside your personal authority should be referred in line with Claims Handling Licence requirements.
- Strong communication is central to the role. You will engage clearly and professionally with claimants, brokers, and internal teams, ensuring that information is conveyed effectively and sensitively.
- Delivering a high standard of customer service is essential, including demonstrating empathy and professionalism in all interactions.
Qualifications/skills - Good knowledge of Insurance Products and Policy Wordings
- Good knowledge of the Claim Life Cycle
- Good analytical and numeracy skills
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy
- IT Literate with good knowledge of Word, Excel and Notes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work independently and demonstrate personal initiative & innovation
