Assistant Editor, Audio
The opportunity
Bloomsbury’s award-winning audio team are looking for a new Assistant Editor, passionate about the audio format, to help support the next phase of our growth. Someone who is great at building relationships both internally and externally, you’ll be confident in negotiating with agents, attending studios and building a rapport with colleagues across the business.
You’ll be responsible for the production of a wide selection of audiobook titles, with opportunity to work broadly across our programme of publishing. You’ll have an eye for detail; ensuring your titles keep to budget and publish on time, without compromising on quality and creativity.
Please note this is not a technical, sound design or studio based role.
The role
The Assistant Editor will have responsibility for the audio production of a number of titles across the group. Production responsibility on these titles shall mean; being the key contact for external stakeholders (studio, actor, voice agent); ensuring the smooth running of the audio schedule; troubleshooting any issues that may impact our simultaneous publication plans; and working closely with the e-operations and metadata teams to ensure assets are accurate for distribution.
- Creative casting and booking talent for a selection of recordings across the Group, with supervision by Senior Editorial team, working within agreed budgets.
- Providing assets (metadata, artwork, audio files) to library and publishing partners as required.
- Ensuring metadata and ISBN information is up to date on Biblio and schedules for agreed titles
- Providing authors with clips and assets on publication
- Publication date checks on key retailer sites, to ensure titles are published accurately and on time, liaising with Publishing Operations to correct any issues.
- Supporting editorial team with pre-production text splits where needed, across the list.
- Other administrative and team project-based tasks as required. This list is not exhaustive of all duties.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Experience in audio and/or publishing processes is essential
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential; Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent administration and organisation skills
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Well organised, thorough, and able to prioritise effectively
- Strong attention to detail, with a problem-solving approach and ability to meet deadlines
- Proactive communicator who keeps colleagues and teams informed
- Creative mindset with a passion for high-quality audio content
- Good casting instincts, with an inclusive approach to voice selection
- Understanding of the audio market and key trends, clear ideas about what makes a great audiobook
Additional information
The role is a full-time, permanent position.
Salary: £28,000 - £30,700 depending on skills and experience
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Tuesday & Thursday
